KSRTC Plans "Bus Day" To Popularise Commuting By Bus

Kochi: Kerala state road transport corporation is planning to organize a "Bus Day" on this December 18 in Kochi. The move is aimed at popularising public transport and discouraging use of private vehicles that result in reduced air pollution and road accidents. The main objective of Bus Day is to see what service improvements could be made by KSRTC to wean people away from private modes of transport onto buses.


On December 18, you will find many prominent persons in Kochi travelling by bus.Transport Minister Jose Thettayil, Ernakulam District Collector M Beena, Mayor Tony Chammany, Cine Actor Dileep and Deputy Mayor Bhadra Satheesh will travel by bus on the day.

The objective of the Bus day campaign is to raise awareness on public transport as a sustainable commuting choice for livable cities. What KSRTC wants for Bus Day is what it envisions for the future - more and more people traveling by Public Transportation.

According to Jose Thettayil, the program aims at encouraging public transport system as well as promoting the Volvo AC and non-AC buses.

Ernakulam district collector M Beena will formally inaugurate the program at a function to be held at the Ernakulam Collectorate on December 18.

Depending upon the feed back and commuter response to the pilot program, the corporation will introduce the same in Thiruvananthapuram also.
