Please Close Pathanamthitta Depot

Dear KSRTC, Its a request from public that please close the Pathanamthitta depot immediately. Because we are not getting any benefit from this depot.

As you know that Pathanamthitta is the district head quarters, not Thiruvalla. All the benefits, new buses, new services, interstate buses are going for Thiruvalla. As if now, there is no problem of shortage of bus/conductors/drivers in Thiruvalla depot. But, do you know what is the condition of Pathanamthitta depot?

Previously the problems were the shortage of conductors and drivers. But now the problem is regarding the shortage of buses. How Pathanamthitta can run 77 Schedules with just 84 buses? In that 84 buses, 5 buses are proposed to scrap and another 5 buses are in some other depots for maintenance works. So in real 74 buses for 77 schedules. Good Job.

There is only 15 Fast passenger buses for running 17 services. There was a Super Fast bus to Palakkad at 1.15 Pm. Nowadays we can see some Fast Passenger bus is running instead of Super Fast. That too by cancelling some other services. Heard that the bus is in Edappal Regional workshop for some maintenance work. There is an other Super fast bus which is going to Coimbatore, people say that the new Venad buses are better than the Coimbatore Super fast.

Vazhikkadavu LSFP is the prestige service of Pathanamthitta depot. The departure time of this bus from Pathanamthitta is at 8.00 Pm. There is only one bus for this service and the bus which went to Vazhikkadavu should come back to the depot if they want to sent the service again. Most of the days, the bus is coming late to Pathanamthitta because of the bad road condition. Please note that, there is no Fast Passenger bus to replace if the bus is late.

Pathanamthitta - Punalur - Ernakulam Fast Passenger bus was getting an average daily collection of more than 10 K. But from past one month, the service is not operating because of the non availability of the bus.

Now i will share some difficulties which I faced in Pathanamthitta depot. One day i planned to go to Kozhikkode. I called up to the bus station and asked the time of Kozhikkode bus. They informed me that the bus would leave at 5.15. I reached the bus station by 4.30 and confirmed the time of the bus again. My intention was to catch the hot seat (ie Seat No 51). I saw the bus parked inside the Garage and obody was near the bus or inside the bus. I stood there by watching that bus. I waited there till 5.15. The bus is not coming outside. I went to ask the reason to station master, he told me that the bus got some Technical problem from yesterday onwards and they can't send the bus today.

Suddenly, i informed this to the Vigilance officer and i took a Fast Passenger bus which is going to Thiruvalla at 5.45. (From 5.15 to 5.45, No buses went to Thiruvalla from that bus station, Remember, that was a week day and peek time)

I reached Thiruvalla by 6.30 and waited there for a superfast bus towards Thrissur or Kozhikkode. Suddenly i got shocked after seeing a Super Fast bus which is coming with Kottayam as the destination board. I checked the bus number and depot name. Yes, it is the same bus which i was waiting for in Pathanamthitta depot. How did they manage to solve the technical problem of that bus within half an hour? When i asked the conductor regarding this he told me that, as the bus is late by half an hour, they got the order to go to Kottayam and come back.

Also you can see that the private buses (Especially Saranya Buses) stopping in front of the depot and calling passengers.

  1. Ya KSRTC should close all the good bus terminus like pathanamthitta, kottarakara, chengannur etc and develop useless terminals like thiruvalla etc. From the above i can understand that there are less buses in pathanamthitta. I have seen the conditions of the buses in pta - ya its bad. Whats the reason behind it? Why are buses belonging to thiruvalla are good? Everyone knows the answer. Look at the buses in kottarakara. That too are in a very bad shape like pta. Can anyone say KSRTC thiruvalla is much developed than kottarakara. Never. I really dont understand why they r building a 9 staired complex in that place. Hardly very few people are there in thiruvalla when compared to pta. I think pathanamthitta and kottarakara people have to wait till next election. I guess situation will surely change. We should bring in ministers like Ganesh kumar who has done lot to KSRTC , kottarakara , pathanamthitta areas. All the fast passengers running from pta-tvla, allepey , kottayam belongs to either tvla/allepey/kottayam. Harldly very few belongs to pta. So if all these good buses are given to pta instead of tvla , we could see the services getting improved, no delays in schedules. PTA-CBE bus reports the maximum days/year in coimbatore bus gandhipuram than any other ksrtc bus. So even with these bad buses they maintain the consistency without stopping the schedules.
All the good buses and schedules should be handed over to pathanamthitta instead of thiruvalla and thiruvalla should remain just as an en-route bus station from kottarakara to kottayam . Pathanamthitta depot is well enough to manage these.

  3. Dear Sirs,

I wish to write here some points on the transport systems in different places in Kerala.

    * It is a fact that the number of buses are very less in Kerala compared to nabouring states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, may be with various reasons.

    * No doubt, KSRTC has to further improve the efficiency of the conditions of the buses by replacing all the old buses and increasing the total number of buses by 50 percentage. Central Government's assistance may be sought for the financial aspects.

    * It is a fact that the number of passengers to Bangalore are very high now a days from all the depots in Kerala. It is previlage route as far as Private operators are concerned. It is high time that KSRTC to make use of this opportunity to increase the daily collections by providing more ac and non ac air buses to Bangalore, Chennai like places from different parts of Kerala.

    * In each and every depot, spare buses are to be maitained to ensure that all the schedules are operated in time. Most of the long route buses are running nearly 20 hours a day, daily maintenance will be difficult and preventive maintenance is to be done at least in two weeks. When spare buses are available, maintenance of the route buses can be underetaken without affecting the daily trips.

    * As Pathanamthitta is the district head quarters, definitely, authorities have to take care and to provide buses to major cities like Bangalore, Chennai etc. apart from the present schedules from Tiruvalla.

    * All of us agree that TNSTC/SETC are providing very good intra and inter state bus services.

My humble suggestion is to send a team of experts to Tamil Nadu to study and evaluate the systems in Tamil Nadu State Tranport Corporations. Useful points to accept, non usable to reject.

    * As KSRTC's main aim is providing services to public rather than making profits, Government support is necessitated to increase the efficiency of the services of the corporation.

I wish all success to KSRTC.

    With Warm Regards.

    T D Mohan Kumar

  6. Thiruvalla bus station will not fetch any value even if they construct 100 storied building there. It;s just an enroute bus station thats alll. It doesnot have value. Nobody is going to be affected if there is no thiruvalla bus station. Check the present bus stand of thiruvalla - the bus stops at the front of existing ksrtc bus stand . Does it affect anyone? not at all. Even all the buses of thiruvalla can be handled by kottarakara /pathanamthitta because these are the end terminals. So its mandatory to have a bus terminus as well as connectivity in these places.

  7. KSRTC charges fare of previous point,if you are boarding the bus 100m before the stop (Say a traffic signal).
This incedent occured at Thottakkatukra (the other side of Periyar river).I boarded KSRTC SF at Thottakkatukara signal a place just on the opposite bank of Periyar river. The KSRTC driver charged me ticket from Angamali 15 km away.

The staff of KSRTC never understands the customers (passengers),they just EXPLOIT people in the name of rules.

Can any one please tell me whether Aluva Busstop or Aluva Bye pass is point for SF bus ?
    If i file a suit,am i eligible for refund ?

  8. Aluva bus stop is a fare stage for super fast buses. But you boarded the bus from "Thottakkattukara", ie just before the fare stage bus stop. So the conductor can charge the fare from the previous fare stage. No need to waste time by giving a complaint. Even the bus doesn't have stop there, you might have got into the bus at the time when it stopped for signal right?
