Ten More Ac Low Floor Buses To Thiuruvananthapuram

Kerala state road transport corporation has introduced 10 new AC low floor Volvo buses to the adjoining towns of Thiruvananthapuram yesterday. Transport minister Jose Thettayil flagged off the buses at a function organised at KSRTC garage, East fort. At present, Thiruvananthapuram holds 8 Volvo buses and 25 Low floor buses. In addition to that, under the Jnnurm scheme, Thiruvananthapuram would get 30 Ac volvo buses and 120 non ac buses.

The new services will be running to Varkala, Nedumangad, Neyyattinkara, Attingal, Neyyar Dam, Kilimanoor, Venjaramood, Vizhinjam, Kovalam and Kattakada.

This initiative is a part of popularising the public transportation system among the masses and to prevent traffic jams in the city, said Mr Jose Thettayil at the function. He also said that, "One had to pay only Rs.10 for travelling five km compared to the Rs.10 charged for 1.25 km by autorickshaws. “After the fares were fixed, the diesel rates went up. The operating cost is Rs.52 for one km. We are not getting it from the capital. Legislators should play a role in encouraging commuters to use the service".

Fares:
Thiruvananthapruam to Varkala Temple: Rs.86
Nedumangad and Neyattinkara: Rs.34
Attingal Rs.56
Neyyar Dam Rs.48

  1. It would have been very useful if provided the bus timings from eastfort to destination and vice versa. If KSRTC could provide timing at each stop then it would have been very very ueful.
