Over Speed: Case Registered Against KSRTC Driver

Its on last wednesday that One young lady was killed and another injured when a speeding KSRTC bus hit a two-wheeler in Kodimatha near the outskirts of the Kottayam town.

The police registered a case against a KSRTC bus driver for over-speeding on Friday morning. The incident occurred near the Kodimatha private bus stand at around 9.15 a.m. The bus (RRC 841), which was on its way from Pathanamthitta to Coimbatore, was stopped by irate locals. The police had to intervene to defuse a tense situation.

Hi, Readers, Can i ask you some questions?

According to KSRTC Officials, All KSRTC Buses are fitted with the Speed Governors and the speed is limited to 60 Kmph. But, we know that most of the buses are running at an average speed of 70-80 Kmph in Highways. If any cases like over speeding happened against driver, who is responsible for that?

Driver Or KSRTC?

  1. The entities to blame according to me is KeSRTC and Public. Here in the forum many people boast how KeSRTC Volvo bus is the fastest bus to Kerala and how SRM and other operators reach TVM from BLR in 12 hours, and how time = money.....Has anybody thought of the safety records of private operators and even KeSRTC, they are bad
I think no one will lose anything if we reach 30min-1hr extra to the destination, prime importance should be safety of the passengers and public

  2. Ashwath, You said the correct point. Kerala roads are very bad compared to other states. Especially our National highways. We should give some awards for the drivers who is struggling to drive these buses in this road to keep their timings.

Most of the times, they cannot maintain their running time because of high traffic and bad condition of roads, so they are forced to increase the speed of the vehicle, if they see a clean road. So according to my opinion, please don't blame drivers for this kind of activities.

  3. Hello Ashwath,

If thats the case, Then Volvos should not run in kerala. No one likes to pay 1100 rs and reach trivandrum at 11 am in the morning. I think u got the point. Then about the comfort of volvo, even leyland buses built by prakash or tata globus can give the same thing. The time difference is not half an hour its nearly 3-4 hours . So inorder to maintain safety its better to run a deluxe bus fitted with 60 kmph limiter. Let us see at what time will it reach the destination , how many people will prefer to board this hereafter. Then one more thing - have u seen two-wheelers and car drivers driving in kerala. They drive as if the road belongs to their family. Do you know the driver and passengers in those buses gets frustrated. In the present situation time is valuable- time is money. I prefer certain high end private operators only because they leave my place at nite and reach early in the morning. So inorder to establish safety its upto government to construct good roads.....

  4. Hei Friends,

Do You Know the time schedule of this PTA-CBE SFP?

    ARRIVAL DEPARTURE
    PTA 4.25am 8.15am
    KTM 9.25am 9.35am
    PBVR 11.25am 11.35am
    TSR 12.45am 01.15pm
    PLKD 02.35pm 02.45pm
    CBE 03.55pm 8.35pm

This shows between KTM- TSR 158KM is to be run within 3hrs 10min including 10min break at PBVR. How it is possible without overspeeding?

I am a usual traveller of this bus and always reach TSR from PTA at 1.00pm (5hours for 220km)
Enthayalum ee bus 80km/hr above povilla. Pulling valare kuravanu. Ennittum drivers athu adichodichu time keep cheyyunnu.

In schedule only 4hrs 25min tu run between PTA and TSR. Ini ithu akasathukoodi pokendivarum to reach in time.
TSR-KKD routil pruivate buses nu 3hrs 10min to run 128kms, but our SFs take 3hrs 30min, paying 8rs more.

    Fate.....

  5. Many a times, it is not the speed of the bus that causes accident rather rash-driving.
You can drive 80-100 KM/H safely, if the road permits, at the same time you can also drive 40KM/H rash-driving and kill few people.
So what we need is not reducing the speed, but educate the moron drivers to drive respecting others on the road...

  6. Actually road is the problem. Tamil Nadu is far better than Kerala in road.
Our End to End buses can make 82 kms in 1 hour at a average of 88-92 kmph, ByePass riders make 240 km in 4 hours,710 km in 11 hours (all are Ashok Leyland) No accident is recorded till now about this buses. No Over speed limit you can drive up to the top speed of your vehicle Accidents are very very less. So kerala should improve the quality of the road and plan for four laned Highways.
