Hindu bodies decry KSRTC circular

KSRTC's circular against the usage of Swami sharanam stickers on it's buses becoming an issue now. Now, The leading newspaper, The Hindu has reported the news with a heading "Hindu Bodies Decry KSRTC Circular"

Report says that

Various Hindu organisations have condemned a circular issued by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation to its depots across the State prohibiting the use of ‘Swami Saranam' signboard or image of Lord Ayyappa on the Pampa-bound special services.

A circular issued from the KSRTC managing director's office in Thiruvananthapuram to all unit officers and squad units of the corporation on October 21 (Letter No. TR1/000771/2010) banned imprinting images of gods or goddesses or religious words like ‘Swami Saranam' and ‘Ammae Narayana' on place boards of special services to various pilgrim centres.

In a statement here on Monday, Kummanam Rajashekharan, Hindu Aikyavedi State general secretary, alleged that the circular was part of a move by vested interests to malign the spirit of Sabarimala pilgrimage.

Mr. Rajashekharan alleged that the KSRTC was trying to communalise the Sabarimala pilgrimage, disregarding the fact that the corporation had been using ‘Swami Saranam' signboards on its special services operated to Pampa from different parts of the State.

Mr. Rajashekharan said it was noteworthy that various government departments and agencies had been sporting the ‘Swami Saranam' logo, along with an image of the presiding deity of the Ayyappa temple, on their sign boards at Sabarimala, in recognition of the national pilgrim centre status of the temple.

The KSRTC directive prohibiting the ‘Swami Saranam' logo and imprinting of the image of Lord Ayyappa on signboards was a testimony to the anti-Hindu policy of the LDF government.

The Hindu Aikyavedi leader called upon Transport Minister Jose Thettayil to intervene and take steps to cancel the circular.

Akhila Bharatha Ayyappa Seva Sanghom vice-president D.Vijayakumar too decried the KSRTC decision.

Mr. Vijayakumar alleged that the corporation was trying to communalise Sabarimala affairs and such a trend should be nipped in the bud.
