Thiruvalla To Get A New Bus Terminal

The State government will construct 59 modern bus terminal-cum-commercial complexes in different parts of the State as part of an initiative to make the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) self-reliant.




Mr. Achuthanandan was laying the foundation stone of State's fourth bus terminal-cum-commercial complex at the KSRTC bus depot in Thiruvalla on Tuesday afternoon. He said a total of 30 such modern bus terminals would be constructed in the first phase. Work on three projects is under way at Kozhikode, Angamaly and Thiruvananthapuram. A new bus terminal would constructed at Vytila in Ernakulam.


The work on the 11-storey bus terminal in Thiruvalla, estimated at Rs 42 crore, was expected to completed in 17 months, he said. The Chief Minister said KSRTC has launched 2,231 buses and started 1,088 schedules, besides making as many as 17,000 appointments through Kerala Public Service Commission, during the past four years.


Transport Minister Jose Thettayil presided. Mathew T. Thomas, MLA, was present. Education Minister M.A. Baby, Devaswom Minister, Kadannappally Ramachandran, Anto Antony, MP, Joseph M.Puthusserry, K.C.Rajagopalan, MLAs, Cherian Polachirackal, municipal chairman, S.Rajashekharan Nair, KSRTC managing director-in-charge, spoke.
