Expenses For Starting A New Bus Service

People in Kerala are very much interested in suggesting and asking for a new KSRTC Bus Service. They want KSRTC to run buses from each and every place. When i posted a page for requesting new routes in ksrtcblog, i got tremendous number of requests to start new services.

As if now, there are around 140 comments in the page "Request New Routes".

Suggesting and asking for new routes are easy for everyone. But before suggesting a new route or service, the public should know some facts which KSRTC is considering before starting a new bus services.

How much does it cost for starting a new KSRTC Bus? Here is a brief calculation of the expenses for starting a new service.

  1. Current price of an Ordinary Bus would come around 13 Lakhs.
  2. Total number of Staff's required for a bus is 6.6 (Including all Categories)
  3. For 6.6 Staffs, for 25 years, the salary (According to current salary scale) would come around 2.5 Crores.
  4. After 25 Years, for this 6.6 Staffs, Around 1.5 Crore Rupees is required for giving pension.
  5. For giving family pensions the price will come around 45 Lakhs.
  6. The DCRG Amount (The amount which is giving at the time of pension by calculating 38% DA) would come around 23 Lakhs.
KSRTC should afford all these expenses, if they continue or stopped a newly introduced service. Public should understand these facts before asking for a new service/route.

  1. HI Sujith

What about the revenue earned through running a bus. I dont think all the routes are in loss as there may be process to recover the amount spend for buying a bus through years of running.
