Providing comforts for the travelers is, of course, a very vital matter, But before Offering such services, authorities should analyse the requirements and capability of that particular class of customers.
Here what happens is, people who travel in short city services are not making leisure trips,in most cases, they are depending for their day to day matters..Such class of travelers never require High Comfort and A/C at an extra expense. Losses incurred b the Trivandrum JNURM services is a classic example for that..
But, those people who travel long journeys (such as Trivandrum- Cochin, Trivandrum-Palakkad, Cochin-Calicut etc) expect a better Level of comfort in their long journeys.. Of course \\\'Garuda\\\' Service proved that point..
Then why cant we too employ Our JNURM services in such Long distance routes as TNSTC did??
I\\\'m sure, this will prove more efficient use of the JNURM scheme for the common people, and Surely bring these services in a Very profitable stage..
Hope my suggestion is felt Good for you,

Trivandrum-Cochin,
ReplyDeleteTrivandrum-Palakkad,
Cochin-Calicut
Kottayam-Cochin
Etc...
When we will get lexuries (like Jnurum) Buses
Please improve
What is the necessity of having low-floor buses. Does it make any advantage to passengers?
ReplyDeleteHardly it does!! That too people in kerala are not that luxury minded to travel inside in the city. So its high time ksrtc should not concentrate on these stuffs. I think Limited stop ordinary(Venad) service is good for intra city commuting. Instead pls concentrate on long routes. No good buses to palakkad, coimbatore, thrisur from tvm/KTR. Bangalore-Pala service is disrupted. KTR-Blr service has vanished off as per the wish of ksrtc (Now we can see kallada & sharma with multi-axle volvos in this route). TSR-blr a/c have good buses in terms of speed but a/c and bus condition are very poor. Why not improve these things rather than going behind something which will never be successful in kerala. TATA globus initially was a good bus but later its condition started deteriorating. So pls concentrate on these things first rather than having a/c volvos inside cochin city------bull shit!!!
Prashanth, u said the right thing. But these volvo and luxury buses are coming under JnNURM scheme. So this buses can introduce only in the cities which they have selected for. Also these buses should run inside the limit of city. That is what the reason those buses are not running beyond ankamali and aroor.
ReplyDeleteWe can see Karnataka RTC, regarding this issues. They have started new volvo services from Kasargod to Manipal and Mangalore to Manipal. For starting these buses they have bought the buses themselves. But i dont think ksrtc can do such type of things because of their poor budget.
Once i spoke to our vigilance officer Mr Gopalakrishnan sir, he told me that we are planning to buy 10 new Interstate volvo coaches and we would like to replace those buses with the present running AC buses, but unfortunately we don't have enough budget to fulfill that dream.
This is the situation of Kerala RTC. Things are suppose to change. Lets hope everything will change.
Hi Sujith,
ReplyDeleteI dont know much about JnNurm scheme. I mean about its limit of operation by the transport dept(whether it is intra or inter city). Recently I saw 3 to 4 buses in coimbatore by TNSTC-CBE operating between Coimbatore and Salem. Salem and coimbatore has got nearly a good distance. The buses operated are mostly TATA Marcopolo (non a/c) buses which we can see in bangalore too(operated by BMTC). Even buses to erode, udumalpet and many others have been changed to Jnnurm in coimbatore. So I dont think these limitations apply to this scheme. May be some other factors might be there.
To make profitable Stop volvos - Go for low floor A/C buses from Leyland/Tata.
ReplyDeleteIn JNURM scheme also very small portion from Central remaining cost is to be borne by the state
@Prashant:- For a city like Cochin where traffic jams rule the day,the Govt really needs to introduce buses like VOLVO's so that commuters who use private vehicles to go for work can be encouraged to use these kind of buses.
ReplyDeleteTake the example of Bangalore,BMTC introduced VOLVO buses - so that people can be encouraged to use these buses(the category includes people who take their private vehicles on road). It has being really successful and there are so many people who use these buses everyday for commuting.
Kindly give some time for the services to mature.Kindly be patient,we Keralites(me also)have a tendency to get everything done very quickly.
Accordingly to JNNURM conditions, it very important that 20% of the buses be low floor running in the city.
@Levar:- Even me too agree that they could have introduced TM a/c buses. But then they have to be low floor buses. For TM buses to be low floor, the cost would come just 15 lakhs below the cost of a VOLVO. BMTC a/c TM buses are semi-low floor buses which have a cheaper price tag.
Its not easy to get a reply these days.. ever since they have moved this page to the fans forum, there are hardly any comments.. Sankar Answers was THE forum with the maximum comments. Now its a pity to see that it get updated hardly once a month. Sujith, its high time you think. No one wants to create an id and then post their comments....The same thing applied to the main blog also... there were numerous occasions where I went to comment and then came back cos i was not permitted to do. I'm sure that there are many who has the same concerns like what i have.
ReplyDeleteSujith, you have done a good job to make the blog reach people.. that doesnt mean that its end of all.. sustaining the growth is important...
Hope this reaches some ears
does anyone knows when is KSRTC going to replace the Globus and the Deluxe buses....It is becoming really impossible travelling in these buses... These buses where getting good partonage after introducing online reservation and a boarding point at madiwala.. If they dont replace these buses, public will stay away from KSRTC for sure.. Currently, TVM volvo is the only service from bangalore that is decent enough to travel.
ReplyDeleteSankar answers will start soon.
ReplyDeleteBilal, U said it rite man. The only good bus of KSRTC at present is the BLR-TVM volvo . Rest all r in bad shape. I was a frequent traveller of Globus, but now i feel very uncomfortable. The temperature inside is freezing. I used to get cold due to this. Most of time water leaks from the duct. Even once i found the a/c opening is fully open ( no knob at all). So how will i adjust? Deluxe buses are also in bad shape(exception plkd-bangalore) . KSRTC should come up with new services . Atleast buses with pretty decent condition. Else private operators will take over the market. A recent announcement had been in the net . A private operator is going to start double-axle mercedes from blr-tvm(via kottayam) . It has got a 12 litre engine. So we could imagine the speed. I hope ksrtc should not loose out atleast try to get some volvos , atleast buy some decent buses.
ReplyDeleteKSRTC can use many of their a/c globus buses = as JNNURM buses inside the town , rather than running good new buses. Atleast ksrtc will not feel that they r into losssssss...............Dont concentrate on intra-city transportation. They have lot of buses still in "sheds" to use it for that. Instead check out for long-distance because it fetches more revenues to KSRTC.
ReplyDeleteContrary to what Prashanth's opinion, there are a class of people who travels in City Volvos. My friend has stopped taking his bike to office and instead travel by Volvo. Today I traveelled by Volvo from Palarivattom to Aluva and literally there was no space to stand.Volvo is especially popular with office going ladies.
ReplyDeleteGovernement should take initiative to have pay& park at important bus stops so that the popularity of such services will increase manifold.
In Bangalore lot of people went back to Bike/Cars after BMTC they hiked/rationalized Volvo fare.
ReplyDeleteCity Volvos are not for India its a big burden on exchequer
@Shelly: This is the same opinion which I voiced. These type of buses have to be introduced to discourage people from bringing private vehicles to the roads. As u had said, a lot of women use this service since they feel more secure travelling in this bus as compared to the unrully behavior shown by the private buses operators.
ReplyDeleteThe post and comments here on Jnnurm buses is fairly ignorant of the whole scheme and its performance.
ReplyDeleteOne, Jnnurm is a scheme funding urban infrastructure in million plus populated cities. State capitals are given exception from the million plus status. Thus Kochi and Trivandrum gets funding from Jnnurm phase-I. Low floor buses, both AC volvos and non-AC Leylands are funded by these. They can be used in areas specified in the CDP - city development plan submitted to Jnnurm. They can never be run anywhere else. These buses are also designed for intra-city urban transport and *NOT* for long distance commuting.
Two, Jnnurm buses -both AC volvos and non-AC Leylands- in Kochi rakes good profit.
AC volvos make a loss in Trivandrum, but non AC service will succeed in all likelihood. If you are about to suggest to divert Trivandrum Volvos for long distance service, wait, for the reasons mentioned in paragraph One KSRTC cannot do that technically and legally. If any operator violates these they will have to answer for this, if someone challenges this legally !!
Finally, why ever would you want to divert profit making Volvos in Kochi for long distance ? Who assures profit for such a reckless move ?
KSRTC is gonna launch 40 Volvos more in Kochi bouyed by its success. Given that fact that more than a fifth of Kerala's vehicles are in Kochi and the need to introduce public transport there, given that it proved to be a SUCCESS, what makes you think against it ?
There have been recent reports that KSRTC has placed orders with Ashok Leyland for 2 double Decker buses and one vestibule bus. I request KSRTC to bring in such buses to Cochin also rather than just crawlling them within Trivandrum city limits. In Cochin, Ankamaly - Cherthala via NH47 would be the best for Vestibule services.
ReplyDeleteWith the hope that this suggestion will be noticed by officials at KSRTC...
These double Deckers and Vestibule buses will be a burdan for KSRTC. They should introduce MARCOPOLOS and start benifitting.
ReplyDeleteJNURM is not a state govt project, State Govt should use this project to replace the RED private bus in kochi who goes to strike every time
ReplyDeleteStop using private bus if u have a KSRTC or JNURM bus in your route
Nice and informative post about the JNURM bus,Thanks.
