State Transport Minister for Jose Thettayil fagged off Nine low floor buses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM).
Buoyed by the tremendous support it has received from the travelling people for its recently introduced Volvo buses in the city, the state-owned KSRTC has introduced Nine new low floor Non AC Leyland buses.
The buses bought under the urban transportation project funded by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) is introduced to ply on the Chottanikkara- Aluva, Poothotta-Njarakkal and Panangad-Aluva routes. Three buses in each routes.
All the buses will be through Menaka. Minimum charge of these buses will be 5 Rupees.
Transport minister Jose Thettayil flagged off these nine beauties of Kerala RTC at the High Court junction.Already 13 low-floor AC Volvo buses are plying on various routes through the city roads. The city residents had extended unexpected support to the airconditioned low-floor buses, which were introduced on various routes in the city. With the introduction of these new buses, the total number of JNNURM buses in Kochi comes to 22. The total number of buses including AC low-floor, non-ac semi-lowfloor and mini buses that will be introduced under the project is 200.
The buses will have 1,100- mm wide door for easy entry and exit, comfortable grab bars and air suspension. The drivers selected to run these buses were given training at the Ashok Leyland’s centre at Namakkal in Tamil Nadu recently.
“The semi-low-floor buses, manufactured by Ashok Leyland, will be operating on three routes.
Three buses will conduct services between Chottanikkara and Aluva (via Vytilla, Jetty and Menaka)
Next three buses will ply between Panangadu and aluva (via Vytilla, Jetty and Menaka)
The remaining three buses will conduct services between Njarakkal and Poothotta,” Zonal Officer, G Jayaraj said To KSRTCBlog.
These are 40 seater buses of Ashok Leyland comes with body built by Veera.The semi-low-floor buses, which are similar to the Volvo airconditioned buses in appearance, will bear the JNNURM and KSRTC logos on the body.
The buses are powered by engines mounted in the rear, and the doors of the buses will be controlled by the driver. There will be two doors, one in the front and one in the middle. Hanging handles and comfortable seats are some of the premium facilities the semilow- floor buses offer.
Mayor Mercy Williams, Sharaf Mohammed (Chief Traffic Operator, KSRTC and special officer for volvo buses) were also present for the function.

ReplyDeleteprivate buses vanished from the roads and KSRTC buses run in the road to reduce the accidents. More accidents are made by private buses. No manners to the people...............
ReplyDeleteThough Kakkanad is a place with heavy bus traffic there is no transport office or time table of the KSRTC buses passing through Kakkanad. As a result passengers have no idea of the transport government bus timings if they want to travel by government bus, as many want to avoid travelling by the red killer private buses.
