Eternal Wait For KSRTC City Service In Cochin

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation had planned to start its City services in Kochi by the middle of this month. The announcement made by Transport Minister Jose Thettayil On 14th of last month. But now, this plan seems to be extended for few more weeks because the private bus operators challenging in the court that RTC's plan to begin City services is against the Motor Vehicles Rules.

The motor vehicles rules 1989 clearly mentioning the definition of "City Or Town Service" as A service plying within a perimeter of a city or Municipal town notified as City or Town service by the Government and both the terminals of which shall not extend beyond five kilometers from the City or Town limit.

Nothing contained in this clause shall apply to the permits already granted to operating city or town services and their renewals.

At present private buses are running from various parts of city to Aluva, Aroor, Mattanchery etc. These permits are already granted some years back and no new permits are issuing in the city now. This problem is now facing by KSRTC when we requested for getting permits to start the City services. Said Mr Jayaraj, Zonal officer, Ernakulam while talking to KSRTC Blog.

Introduction of low floor buses was the first step in resolving the traffic problems of the city. Low floor buses are getting good collection, especially the volvo buses which is running through the outskirts of city. JnNURM buses can run anywhere in the city which comes under GCDA. But for starting a City Service, we have to follow the Cochin Corporation's city limit. Or else we have to start the buses as City - Moffusil service. We have escalated the problem to Transport Minister, he will take some immediate action for this, Said Mr TP Senkumar (Chairman And Managing Director or KSRTC) while talking to KSRTC Blog.

KSRTC has already started making the buses for Kochi city services. These buses will be of 2x2 seats with more space for standing passengers. This bus will be in the same color and design of Ananthapuri Fast. But the minimum charge will be Rs-4/-

Conclusion

  1. They have already started making the buses with 2x2 seating capacity for Kochi city services.
  2. Expected to inaugurate the city service by July 15.
  3. If the plans is extending, they may force to use that buses as Ananthapuri Fast in Thiruvananthapuram.
  4. Also if they want to start Moffusil city services the seating capacity should be in 3x2 manner.
  5. If they want to convert these buses to 3x2, it will increase the development cost and work load.
So, let us hope everything will be fine within a short span of time. We all are waiting for KSRTC to start its city services in Kochi. Come fast, lets beat the red cattles with our white elephants.

  4. THE BUSES NOW COMES ARE ALL NORMAL LIVERIES. THEY ARE INVITED BUT KOCHI NEEDS HI TECH BUSES, 50 VOLVOS AND 120 SEMI LOWFLOORS. THE OTHER 30 MAY BE VOLVO ITSELF/MARCOPOLO AS KSRTC THREW THE IDEA OF MINI BUSES.

  5. Private buses from Vypeen are not allowed to enter Kochi city by transport authorities; as they say the city is over crowded by traffic. Then how can they allow KSRTC to conduct new city service? This is clearly a double stand with us.I would say private bus operators should challenge this move in court.

  6. There is no doubt as govt authorities can decide the route and all.

Private players are bound to these rules as the govt have the authorities to itervene also on this rules.

  11. KSRTC won the race and definitely will win the heart of Kochi people as well.
This is just a beginning and Kochi can expect more from KSRTC in the form of JNRUMs and more Thiru Kochies.
Let PBOA change their attitude towards passengers and prepare themselves for a healthier competition with KSRTC in our beautiful Kochi city.
