KSRTC To Divert Buses To Kannur Via Makkuttam

Bangalore, Mysore: The wait is over for passengers in the Kannur-Mysore-Bangalore route. On Saturday, the Makkutta-Virajpet inter-State highway that connects the district with Kodagu (Coorg) in Karnataka was reopened, marking an end to the difficulties faced by those who go to Mysore and Bangalore by road.

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) resumed its daily services to Mysore/Bangalore through the Makkutta ghat road on Sunday.

KSRTC is operating various schedules from Bangalore, Mysore and Virajpetta to different parts of Kannur. All these buses will take the new route instead of going via Mysore (From Bangalore). This will save around 90 Kms and More than 50 Rupees for a passenger. Also a passenger can save around 2-3 hours by using the above mentioned route.

Timings of two schedules from Bangalore are changed because of this new route to save time. These are

1) Payyannur Express (Via Sreekandapuram, Alakkode) will start from Bangalore
by 7.30Pm instead of starting from 8.15Pm.
2) Thalassery Deluxe bus will start from Bangalore by 8.15 Pm instead of starting from 7.30Pm.

Passengers from Kozhikode to Mysore/Bangalore, who are hit by the ban on night vehicular traffic through the Bandipore forest in Karnataka, will also benefit.

  1. This is a good news. Today in paper it was mentioned 16 ksrtc services routed through this new way.

  2. Yeah anup, but all the 16 services are not from Bangalore. Few of them are from Mysore, Virajpetta etc..

Also in today's Manorama, they have mentioned that KSRTC is planning to introduce volvo buses to Kannur, ie all the buses are gonna upgraded to Volvo buses. But i dont know from where they got that information. That may be related to Karnataka RTC.

Till this moment, kerala rtc does not have any plans to introduce volvo buses towards Kannur.

  6. It is a good news that Kerala RTC is introducing Super Express in many routes. I think, the Kerala RTC should introduce a Super Express in the Pala route and change the timings. 1300 hours is not a good time for passengers to depart to Pala. The timings should be 1700 hours and routed via Coimbatore-Palakkad-Trichur route, then it will be profitable.

  7. Many people talk rubbish about that Volvos are being introduced in the Kannur-Bangalore routes. If introduced, there will be frequent troubles and the passengers especially ladies and children will be affect. Let the Kerala RTC introduce all new good Leyland Super Express buses. In these buses the rates are cheap & affordable. Many poor & middle class people in Bangalore are visiting Kannur-Tellicherry-Payyannur regularly. Everybody cannot travel in Volvo. Even today many Volvos are going empty on week days. Let the people travel in Karnataka Saarige-Super Fast or Super Express buses. Then the Virajpet-Kannur and Mysore-Kannur & Tellicherry routes will be operated soon. I have contacted the Karnataka RTC at Mysore, & they have assured that the 4.20 am, 7.30, 9.30 buses to Tellicherry, 7 am, 8.30 buses to Kannur will be operated soon.

  8. I had already written, let the Kerala RTC start some night services of the Kozhikode-Bangalore-Kozhikode route (Via) Vadagara,Tellicherry directly to Bangalore without touching Mysore during night times. The road is good, and also time will be saved.

  9. During night times, there is not a single bus of either Karnataka or Kerala directly to Tellicherry-Kannur from Mysore. Atleast Kerala RTC should start a night service to Payyannur (Via) Tellicherry-Kannur. Karnataka RTC is operating a Karnataka Saarige bus at 2200 hours from Mysore to Kannur. It will depart from Bangalore Satellite bus Station at 1830 hours.

  10. when all the buses travelling through makkoottam what should we, the wayanadan people, do to go to bengaluru? Now you can see hundreds of passengers at MANANTHAVADY town at night times waiting for buses towards karnataka. the kerala RTC should start at least one night service from MANANTHAVADY to BENGALURU.

  11. On 12/6/10 I left to Taliparamba by the Kerala 2030 Super Express Bus and returned by Bangalore by the 2015 Super Express Bus from Kannur. The arrival and departure of these buses are fine. The 2030 Super Express Bus arrived at Taliparamba @ 5 a.m. and return from Kannur to B'lore @ 5 a.m These both buses overtook all the buses. The rates to Kannur & B'lore is Rs. 248=00 excluding booking rates. The journey is superb and cheap. Another good news the Yesvantpur-Kannur-Yesvanthpur Train will be a daily train from 25/6/2010. This will be very good news for people of Kozhikode who are affected by the Bandipur National Park Blockade.

  12. The Karnataka RTC & Kerala RTC should start night service buses from Mananthavady-Bangalore-Mananthavady. I also request the people especiall students should travel in the day buses to Mysore or Bangalore. I have seen many people prefering to travel by night buses from Mananthavady.

  13. Another good news to the people of Kannur & Kozhikode is that the Yesvantpur-Kannur-Yesvanthpur Train will be a daily train from 25/6/2010. This will be very good news for people of Kozhikode who are affected by the Bandipur National Park Blockade. The Railway should block the Palakkad-Shornur tickets, who are the most benefitted people. The train should be used by the people of Malappuram/Kozhikode/Tellicherry/Kannur. Kudos to Railways.

  15. After opening of the Makkutta Road, the Karnataka RTC has introduced Super Fast Karnataka Saarige buses from Bangalore to Kannur at 8.15 am, Tellicherry at 8.45 a.m. & to Tellicherry night at 2045 hours. The rates are very nominal. People can also use these buses.
